Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

APPLY NOW

Broadway Veterinary Group is an independent small animal hospital based in the pretty seaside town of Herne Bay, Kent.

Sarah, the head vet, started the practice in 1986, with just her husband, Paul and a trainee nurse. We’ve now grown into a team of 30, and recently opened our brand-new hospital. We are also lucky to host Vets Now on site, providing great continuity of care for our patients without the need for our vets to do OOHs.

We’re so proud of the design of our new facilities, especially our completely separate feline clinical facilities. We have all the usual kit, including digital x-ray and ultrasound, and we are  always happy to invest in new equipment to allow you to follow your interests. We are still growing, and have some very exciting plans for the future, with the space available for the practice to double in size.

Our clinical team of 3 vets, 4 RVNs and 4 ANAs are so supportive of each other, and work really well as a team. Sarah qualified in 1982 and enjoys all aspects of small animal work and still finds being a GP vet really rewarding. She also has a special interest in both dermatology and behaviour. Sarah also enjoys mentoring and is our Vet GDP Advisor. She has helped many new graduates over the years and believes that the best training a new grad can receive is hands on training in practice, with the support and encouragement of an experienced team. We provide a safe place to learn, where someone is always available to discuss a tricky case or scrub in to help with an op. We would also enrol you on the Vet Dynamics New Graduate Academy. Georgina qualified in 2014 and has been with the us for 8 years now. She particularly enjoys rabbit medicine and surgery. Zuzanna knew she wanted to be a vet from the time she was 3 years old and is happy to say she is still as passionate about the profession now. She is currently studying for her certificate in internal medicine but also enjoys surgery and is hoping to go on to complete a surgical certificate as well.

We also benefit from the expertise of visiting peripatetic surgeon and Advanced Veterinary Practitioner Andrei Uricaru, who undertakes orthopaedic operations from TTAs, hip dysplasia to spinal surgery, and soft tissue operations including BOAS and laryngeal tiebacks. This provides great case continuity for patients that would usually be referred elsewhere, and if you’re interested in surgery Andrei is happy for you to get involved and learn more.

If you have a particular passion or area of interest, we will always support you; so, whether you’re looking to take on a certificate, or just want to broaden your skills we’ll do what we can to help. With our separate cat facilities, you have the opportunity to be strongly feline focused, leading the expansion our cat services. However, if you’re more of a canine fan, we look after the local Dogs Trust, and you could join our vets who really enjoy their time working there.

We have regular clinical meetings and journal club to allow us to discuss cases and any clinical interests, and we also have great relationships with pharmaceutical reps who provide us with in-house CPD. We are part of Vet Dynamics, so we are always looking for new ways to think outside the box to help our team feel happy, fulfilled and stress-free both at work and home.

Our full-time vets work a 4-day week (8.30am to 6pm), with just 1:4 Saturday mornings. As we have Vets Now on site there are no out-of-hours to cover so you’ll have your evenings, weekends and bank holidays free to enjoy. However, if you enjoy emergency medicine and want to get involved in the OOHs work, there is always the option to pick up additional shifts with Vets Now.

We provide a consult-only service at our original Herne Bay practice a couple of hours each day. New grads and less experienced vets would be fully supported and under no pressure to go it alone until they felt confident to do so. The Herne Bay practice is now also home to Ease In Motion which provides physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and chiropractic services, meaning we have great continuity of care for our patients recovering from surgery or needing pain management.

We have dedicated admin time built into the day to make phone calls and catch up on any paperwork, and we’ll always make sure you get a proper 1-hour lunch break, so whether you want to pop home for lunch or make use of our fantastic staff room with its full kitchen facilities you’ll always have the chance to relax and clear your head.

We love getting together socially, so much so that we have a dedicated practice fun budget, and our wellbeing notice board has been taken over by organising lots of team social events. We also have our annual practice Christmas party and our Summer party, which last year saw us take over the field next to our local brewery for a family fun day, with hog roast, pizza and all the team’s dogs.
